Junior Alex Miller won the men’s 100 meter butterfly and set a new state record at the State Swim State Championship on Saturday.

Miller’s impressive achievement actually had him breaking his own previous state record of 50:48, shaving off 44 hundredths of a second. Miller called his new record a “decent jump,” and said “he’s only getting faster.” He also placed third in the 200m free.

Miller has been on the Oak Grove swim team since he was in  seventh grade, and has been swimming competitively since he was 8 with the Hub Fins swim team. He plans to continue his swimming career in college.

Lane Evans and Kailey Skinner also made the finals. Evans placed second in 100m backstroke and ninth in 200m free. Skinner placed eighth in 100m butterfly.

The Men’s 200 medley took bronze with the team composed of Lane Evans, Oakley Camille, Alex Miller and Joeseph Slaughter. The men’s 200 free relay placed fourth, with the team composed of Oakley Camille, Kenneth Keith, Lane Evans and Alex Miller. The men’s team finished fourth overall in the state, with the two relays and Lane Evans and Alex Miller scoring points.
