A Forrest County Agricultural High School student is now in police custody after threats made to Purvis High School. Authorities were alerted to the threat after a Snapchat photo began circulating on social media with the caption “Think I’m playing Purvis?”

Following reports of the threat, Lamar County School District Superintendent Tess Smith addressed parents via Facebook.

“Please know that the safety of your students is our top priority. Please encourage students to share information with school administrators as soon as they are made aware, not to share unconfirmed information on social media.”

Officials confirmed the FCAHS student is being interviewed in a Lamar County detention center by the Lamar County School District Police.

“Students at Purvis High School are now aiding in the investigation,” said Smith. “We will continue to assist with the investigation in any means necessary.”

“I was shocked and scared after I heard the news,” said FCAHS senior Devan Bunch. “It’s a strange feeling to have someone at your school that thinks like that and could possibly do the same thing to our school.”
